As part of the 72nd Wildlife Week, 2026, the South Andaman Forest Division organized a Birding & Trekking Programme today at Mount Manipur National Park, with participation of students and teachers from various schools of South Andaman. Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri P. Ummer, Zilla Parishad South Andaman, was the chief guest. 

The DFO, South Andaman briefed the participants about the significance of Wildlife Week and the importance of conserving wildlife, forests and natural habitats. During the trek, the students explored the rich biodiversity of Mount Manipur, observed around 20 species of birds, and learned about the forest types, vegetation and ecological significance of the area, providing them with direct field exposure and enhancing their awareness about wildlife, biodiversity and conservation of the Islands’ natural heritage.
