CANSRU Organises Swachhata Hi Seva Cleanliness Drive at Corbyn’s Cove

Employees, Police and Stakeholders Join Beach Cleanup; Sessions Held on BNS, Cybercrime, POSH and POCSO Awareness

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 2: Cochin Shipyard Limited’s Andaman & Nicobar unit, CSL–AN Ship Repair Unit (CANSRU), organized a cleanliness drive under the National Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign, in line with directives from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India.

The event was held at Corbyn’s Cove Beach in collaboration with the Andaman & Nicobar Police, Sri Vijaya Puram, and witnessed active participation from CANSRU employees, trainees, QC & Fire personnel, vendors, and police personnel from PS Aberdeen.

The programme commenced with inaugural address of Shri Vijay Kumar (Inspector, PS Aberdeen) wherein he emphasized importance of cleanliness as a collective responsibility and highlighted the role of community involvement in sustaining hygienic surroundings. He urged participants to actively contribute towards maintaining public spaces, stressing that citizen participation is vital for the success of national initiatives like Swachhata Hi Seva. Shri Sreekanth V, Unit Head, CSL AN Ship Repair Unit (CANSRU) highlighted importance of proper segregation of plastic and other waste materials into designated bins, stressing that effective disposal practices are essential to maintain cleanliness and support sustainable environmental management. Other officials, including Shri Binu K. Kuriakose (AGM, CANSRU), Shri Mathew Varghese, Senior Manager (HR & IR), Shri Joseph M. Esthapannu, Senior Manager (Mechanical), Shri Vishal Tiwari and Smt. Deepti Minj, Sub‑Inspector, PS Aberdeen were also present. 

Following the cleaning drive, in the concluding session Shri Vijay Kumar briefed participants on key provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, and Shri Vishal Tiwari, Sub‑Inspector, PS Aberdeen conducted an awareness session on cybercrime prevention and digital safety. Smt. Deepti Minj, Sub‑Inspector, PS Aberdeen, delivered sessions on the POSH Act, 2013 and the POCSO Act, underscoring workplace safety and child protection.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Shri Mathew Varghese, Senior Manager (HR & IR). The initiative reaffirmed CANSRU’s commitment to environmental hygiene and public health, aligning with the national vision of a cleaner, developed India under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
